Rugby derby between Suburbs and Wanderers on Saturday

WINDHOEK: First National Bank (FNB) Western Suburbs and FNB Wanderers promises to deliver great rugby over the weekend at the Wanderers Sports Field in Pionierspark.

The Namibia Rugby Premier League is divided into two groups, A and B, with all group matches played in Windhoek, Rehoboth, and the two coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

Windhoek-based Namibia Rugby Premier League side, Western Suburbs and Wanderers will lock horn in a Group B in what will be a game to prove who are the best outfit sponsored by FNB are, at 15h15, 2nd August 2014.

In a statement availed to Nampa on Wednesday by FNB, Ingrid Goeieman, Manager Sponsorships and Donations at FNB Namibia invited the public to join them and support the teams this coming Saturday.

“We promise a great fun filled day. From 12h00 the under 10’s will play followed by the second teams and then at 15h15 the first league teams of FNB Western Suburbs and FNB Wanderers. What a great day to spend outdoors with family and friends while supporting sporting events in general and rugby in particular,” statement quotes Goeieman saying.

In the same statement, James Camp from FNB Western Suburbs advised that this derby has been a regular item on the sport calendar for the past six years and FNB Namibia has supported it for the same length of time. According to Camp the sponsorship by FNB Namibia has been invaluable as it has afforded them the opportunity to move into semi-professional status with the club while also receiving financial and in-kind support.

“We also believe that FNB’s belief in us has given us the edge to be champions three times in the last years,” the statement quotes Camp.

Flip Louw from FNB Wanderers added that this was a rugby match between old rivals and it was all about gathering supporters from the two clubs to unite and support their teams.

“FNB gives every rugby player the chance to show his talent and their support helps to develop the sport and bring communities together. The spirit of sportsmanship must prevail. The public is very important to us and we will entertain them this coming Saturday at the Derby,” boasted Louw.
