RVK Sports Management to host football and netball tournament

WINDHOEK: Rodman Vazemba Katjaimo (RVK) Sports Management will host its first ever football and netball tournament here in the capital at the Khomasdal stadium over the weekend.

The RVK Sports Management Championship Cup will be hosted from 31 October and the first weekend of November.

RVK Sports Management is a brainchild of Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Otjiherero Radio sports presenter Rodman Vazemba Katjaimo who is currently studying Sports Management at the Jamaican University of Technology (Utech).

Speaking at the launch of the RVK Sport Management Championship Cup Katjaimo said he is in a process of opening up a sports management academy and he is using this tournament to create awareness.

“While in Jamaica I learned how important it is to invest back into our communities and right now I want to use the knowledge that I have gained to plough back into our Namibian communities.

“I am still studying in Jamaica, but hopefully when I finish with my studies our academy will be completely functional. We are planning on opening an academy that will train coaches in rural areas in athletics, football and netball,” he said.

He told this agency that his plan to launch the academy will be announced to the public in the next three weeks, but at the moment his attention is focused on the upcoming RVK Sport Management Championship cup.

“We earlier this month called on the Namibian nation at large on different radio stations to come participate in this tournament as this is all about developing sports at grassroots level. I am therefore calling on all coaches from the first division to the Premier League to come and watch this football tournament as it will be a way of scouting players for their team,” stated Katjaimo.

The tournament has thus far seen 40 football and netball teams registered to participate in the championship that will be hosted at the Khomasdal Sport Stadium.

He added that the RVK Sport Management Championship Cup would allow team to recruit two Premier League players into their squads.

The teams that have registered are 20 netball team and 20 football teams from Windhoek and other towns around Namibia.

Winners of the netball championship will walk away with N.dollars 5 000 second place finishers will get N.dollars 2500 while the semi-finalist will each walk away with N.dollars 1250 each.

In the football category the winner will walk away with N.dollars 10 000 for first price, runner-ups will walk away with N.dollars 5 000 with the semi finalist each walking away with N.dollars 2500.

Katjaimo sponsored the tournament to the tune of N.dollars 30 000 and he called on the Small Business Enterprises (SME) to start investing such initiatives to help grow sports in Namibia.
