School from this year will be responsible for their own furniture – says Director of education

EENHANA: The Director of Education in the Ohangwena Region, SanetSteenkamp says schools will from this year be responsible for the repair of their own furniture.

Steenkamp said this whilst addressing education stakeholders’ meeting at Eenhana in the region over the weekend.

She believes that learners will be held more accountable for breakage and vandalism when schools become responsible for repairing their own chairs and desks, which she said are repaired at high costs.

Steenkamp said her directorate could in the past not provide its 1 700 teachers with tables and chairs as planned because of the lack of funds.

According to her, textbooks delivery has started in the region on 19 January last year, while certain books and manuals ordered by the head office for the extension of the new curriculum in the junior primary phase, were also delivered to distributors for delivery to the regions.
