Security Guard in Court for Girlfriend’s Murder

A security guard, who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend at the Shadikongoro village in the Kavango East region on Friday, made his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The fatal shooting occurred at the Ndinovesi Bar, situated some 180 kilometres east of Rundu in the Mukwe Constituency.

During his court appearance, Rundu Magistrate Esme Molefe informed the accused, Munango Kandjimi (age unknown), of his rights to engage legal representation of his choice. The case was then postponed to 12 August this year to allow further police investigation.

Kandjimi was charged with murder read together with the Domestic Violence Act. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Agnes Mahunga, a resident of the same village.

A police crime report issued to Nampa on Sunday indicated that the security guard shot Mahunga after she apparently caught him with another woman.

The accused allegedly dumped the deceased’s body into the Okavango River. The police have not yet recovered the remains.

Her next of kin have been informed of Mahunga’s death.
