Senior national rugby team bows out of the Vodacom Cup competition with a narrow defeat by Leopards XV of South Africa

WINDHOEK: The senior national rugby team, the Welwitschias bowed out of the Vodacom Cup competition with a narrow defeat by the Leopards XV of South Africa here on Friday night.

The Welwitschias lost the game 25-33 at the Hage Geingob Stadium.

They went into the game on the back of a defeat in their previous game to another South African side, the Falcons (7-45) at the same venue.

The Welwitschias started the game on a positive note with an early try by Nico Esterhuysen just five minutes into the game.

Speaking to the media after the game, Welwitschias captain Jaco Engels said he was happy they took part in the Vodacom Cup because the experience gained by the young players is something they can use for a long time.

He said the team is full of young players and they are fast learners, adding that this was a good tournament for them to gain experience which they will use for future events.
