Six murders reproted over elections weekend

WINDHOEK; Six people died in the Khomas, Erongo and //Karas regions over the weekend.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Sergeant Slogan Matheus said during the Sunday media briefing that George Swaartbooi, 43, was stabbed after an argument between him and the suspect, who is well-known to the police.

The incident occurred along Etetewe Street, close to the Moses Garoeb Primary School, in Windhoek on Saturday at about 03h20.

Matheus said Swartbooi allegedly hit the suspect with fists before he was stabbed.

Swaartbooi was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital, but died upon arrival there.

The suspect fled the scene and is still at large.

Swaartbooi’s next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue in the matter.

Also in the capital, 35-year-old Klaas Zongo was stabbed to death along Kasamba Street in the 7de Laan residential area of Otjomuise on Friday at around 21h00.

It is alleged that the deceased was stabbed when he intervened to stop a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend.

The suspect has been arrested and is due to appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In the Omusati Region, a 40-year-old man was shot to death with a shotgun at the Odimbwa Village in the Etayi Constituency.

Matheus said it is alleged that the deceased was shot by a security guard while allegedly breaking into a shebeen at that village.

A case of attempted housebreaking was opened against the deceased and his co-accused who is still at large.

In the same region, the dead body of a woman was discovered by a member of the public near a riverbed at Tsitsabis around 07h00 on Sunday.

The deceased, who has been identified as Paulina Anibes, was seen at a local shebeen on Saturday evening, but was discovered dead the next morning.

“The cause of death has not yet been established, but the circumstances under which the body was found suggest that the deceased may have been raped before she was killed,” Matheus said.

Police are trying to trace the culprit/s.

In Keetmanshoop, a man was stabbed to death at the Donkerhoek, Tseiblaagte location on Thursday last week after an argument about liquor erupted between him and the suspect.

According to NamPol, Martin Vries was stabbed several times with a knife during the argument.

A suspect was arrested, and will appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In a separate incident, three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Sakeus Nghishiikushitya Shaketange at the DRC informal settlement in Swakopmund.

According to police reports, the deceased was robbed of N.dollars 50 and a fight ensued between him and the suspects.

The deceased was rushed to the Swakopmund State Hospital, but died on his way to Windhoek where he was transferred to for further treatment.

Shaketange’s next of kin have been informed, and the suspects will make their first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In the same region, a man was stabbed for making advances towards a woman while she was at a nightclub in the company of her male in-laws.

Matheus said the in-laws followed the victim when he left the nightclub, and stabbed him with a knife three times.

The incident took place on Thursday last week.

The deceased, who has been identified as Nikodemus Hanson, 55, was rushed to the Usakos State Hospital where he died on the same day.

His next of kin have been informed.
