Six people perish in road accident outside Okahandja

OTJIWARONGO: Six people on Sunday evening died instantly in a fatal road accident that involved three vehicles on Otjiwarongo-Okahandja road in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview that the accident occurred some 33 kilometres outside Okahandja on Okahandja-Otjiwarongo road at approximately 19h15 on Sunday evening.

“A total of three vehicles were involved and six people died on the scene consisting two children and four adults. Ten other people sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Okahandja State Hospital the same Sunday evening,” Mbeha said.

She said that two pickup vehicles and an SUV were the three vehicles which were involved, adding that one pickup had burst into flames and burned completely on the scene with one occupant on it.

No further particulars were available Sunday evening.

Police investigations in the matter are continuing.
