SKW Youth Soccer Tourney Grows From Strength to Strength

Retirement Fund Solutions sponsored the SKW Youth Soccer Tournament which recently took place for the seventh successive year to an amount of N$18 500.

The tournament saw a big turnout of more than 1 000 children from 57 teams competing in six different age groups from U7 to U17 categories.

Regular Windhoek-based teams that competed included SKW, Ramblers, DTS,, Swallows and Kaizen Football Academy, while several teams from outside Windhoek also competed, like Rosh Pinah, Swakopmund Football Club, Otjiwarongo and Rosh Pinah.

The only blemish on a successful tournament was the absence of Tura Magic and Namib Colts, who did not turn up for their matches.

The behaviour of the players and coaches was exemplary as a high level of sportsmanship and fair play was exhibited throughout the tournament. Not one single suspension for two yellow cards or a red card was reported during the preliminary rounds and the semifinals, and only at the end of the U15 final was a red card issued due to a last man tackle.

Ramblers won the U17 category after beating SKW 2-0 in the final, while Delta finished third after beating KFA 1-0 in the bronze medal playoff. SFC finished fifth and Swallows sixth.

There was a surprise in the U15 category, where Ramblers B won the gold medal after beating KFA 2-1 in the final. SKW 1 won the bronze medal after beating Ramblers A in the third place playoff.

SKW A won gold in the U13 category after beating SFC 3-0 in the final. In the third place play-off KFA 2 beat Rosh Pinah 2-0.

SFC won the U11 category after beating Ramblers A 3-1 in the final, while Otjiwarongo beat KFA 2-1 in the third place play-off.

The U9 category was contested on a round robin format, with Ramblers Lions coming first, followed by Ramblers Leopards and Otjiwarongo in third place.

The U7 category was also contested on a round robin basis, with RFC A coming first, SKW A second and DTS A third.

Udo Riedel, the Youth Academy Manager at SKW thanked Retirement Fund Solutions for their continued support.

“For many years now we have benefitted from the sponsorship of Retirement Fund Solutions, without whom the staging of this tournament would not be possible. Especially during the time when the SKW Youth Academy is operating without a main sponsor, we are grateful to Retirement Fund Solutions for their continued involvement in this tournament,” he said.
