Some polling stations to remain open – ECN

WINDHOEK: All the polling stations that experienced delays in opening Friday morning will remain open until everyone in the queue has voted, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says.

ECN public Relations Officer Vikitoria Hango told Nampa shortly before midnight on Friday that the affected polling stations will continue to allow voters who have been in the queues to cast their votes in the 2014 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

She could not state clearly whether the ECN has set a new deadline for this extension in the voting time nor could she provide an exact number of the affected polling stations. The voting was initially set to end at 21h00.

Many polling stations countrywide opened later than the set 07h00 opening hour on Friday, mainly due to technical problems relating to the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the late arrival of un-accredited political party agents.
