SPYL Urges Peaceful Campaigns

The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) regional secretary Mathew Hangula has implored the youth in Oshikoto Region to desist from acts of violence during campaigning for the upcoming elections.

Said Hangula: “Campaign vigorously and passionately but refrain from violence, so that we keep the stability our forefathers fought and sacrificed so much for. We need to show our elders that they need not doubt us because we are young. “The only way we can do that is through discipline. Our choices should always be guided by discipline and the knowledge that our actions as SPYL, good or bad, have an impact on the party as a whole.” He further cautioned the youth against being misled by the ideologies of negative people. “As Namibians we need to be honest with each other.

Even countries that have been independent for more than 50 years, some of which are globally perceived as high achievers, still have shortcomings, so do not be drawn in by negative people.” The regional secretary added that the achievements realised by government far outweigh its shortcomings. Hangula cited road networks, schools, water supply, bringing services closer to the people and medical facilities such as clinics and hospitals as some of the immense developmental positives. He said 24 years of independence is not enough time to resolve all the nation’s problems. “We would like to assure our people that the Swapo government has made great achievements and will soar to even greater heights,” said Hangula. He however added: “We are ready to accept criticism and tackle the challenges as stipulated in our Swapo Party manifesto.”

He further encouraged all youth who have not yet registered to vote to do so during the second registration period.
