Stabbed Police Officer in Stable Condition

THE police officer, who was stabbed by inmates at the Katutura Police Station cells last week, is reportedly in a stable condition.

Constable Johannes Andreas (32) and an inmate, Sidney !Ganeb, were allegedly stabbed in the cells by Ruddy Raudenbach and Amon Phiri.

Raudenbach and Phiri then escaped from the cells but were arrested later.

Katutura Police Station commander Chief Inspector Ismael Basson said the suspects will appear in the Windhoek Magistrates’ Court in Katutura today.

They are facing attempted murder, assault and escaping from lawful custody charges.

“I am happy to say that the officer is stable and talking. The suspects have been moved to different cells,” Basson said.

Raudenbach and Phiri allegedly attacked Andreas from behind and stabbed him 14 times.

Police Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga said they are aware of police officers working with inmates.

“We have been working on this matter for some time now and we are aware of these officers and busy trying to stop the smuggling of illegal substances and objects into the police cells. At this point I can’t disclose much as we might give the inmates and suspected police officers a tip-off,” Ndeitunga said.
