’Stars Will Win NPL’

African Stars will be crowned the Namibia Premier League champions at the end of the season, their coach Woody Jacobs said after his side conquered holders Black Africa 2-0 in an exhilarating contest on Friday night.

‘Starlile’ breathed new life into the title race with goals by Bradley Wermann on 66 minutes and substitute Riaan Cloete on 86 minutes, with victory putting them three points behind log leaders BA with a match in hand.

The nature of Friday’s result led Jacobs to believe that the title was destined for African Stars trophy cabinet.

“I see the title race as African Stars winning the Cup. We are three points behind and we have three matches to play and I don’t see us losing. I don’t see these boys giving up on this thing now,” Jacobs told reporters after the match.

“We’ll beat Black Africa on goal difference you can rest assured. They are not playing and that’s something I don’t understand but we will take them on,” he added.

Jacobs said critics, who had written off African Stars chances of ending BA’s three year domination of the Premiership following an inconsistent campaign, should now acknowledge his side’s title credentials.

“We had a tough start. We were not that good. People and even you guys [reporters] standing here, you never gave us a chance. You don’t write and say that African Stars have [a chance to win the title]. But tonight we stood up and you really took note of African Stars. We will be there. When the season ends, we will be the winners of this competition,” Jacobs said.
