Stauch and Partners Off Road Triathlon

THE annual Stauch and Partners Off Road Triathlon will take place this Sunday, 30 March. In the past the event was held at Friedenhau dam but for this year’s race the event organisers, OTB sport, decided for logistical reasons to move the event to Lake Oanob Resort.

Participants can choose between an Endurance event (1,2km swim, 24km cycle, 8km run), a Sprint (600m swim, 12km cycle, 4km run) or a mini-triathlon (300m swim, 6km cycle, 2km run).

Cash prizes totalling N$18 000 can be won while the first 150 entries will receive a New Balance technical event T-shirt.

“This event is the only off-road triathlon in Namibia and it has always been a very popular event. This year’s event will take place at Lake Oanob Resort and participants will have the additional attraction of cycling amongst game,” said Yvonne Brinkmann from OTB Sport. “We expect a tight race. The favourite for the Endurance race is last year’s winner, Jean Paul Burger, but he should receive tough competition from veterans Andrew Rowles, Patrick de Goede and Paddy Murphy,” she added.

Brinkmann said they added the mini-triathlon to attract less experienced and younger triathletes to the event, while participants could also enter as a team.

Andy Chase from Stauch and Partners said:

“Stauch and Partners Architects is proud to bring you this year’s Off-road Triathlon with OTB sports. We see our involvement in this community event as an important step to plough back into the sport and our community.”

This triathlon has grown from humble beginnings and is now one of the main multi-sport events on the Namibian sporting calendar.

The Endurance will kick off at 9h00, the Sprint at 9h30 and the mini-triathlon at 10h00. The prize-giving ceremony will take place at about 12h30.

Entries close at 12h00 on Thursday, 27 March.
