Stephanus is Players’ Player and Player of the Season

WINDHOEK; Black Africa Football Club midfielder Willy ‘Awilo’ Stephanus is the 2013/14 Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC)/Namibia Premier League (NPL) Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Year.

Stephanus scooped the two awards here on Friday evening.

He was nominated in the Player of the Season category, which carried a purse of N.dollars 30 000, with FNB Orlando Pirates’ Brian Gurirab and Blue Waters’ Hendrick Somaeb.

In the Players’ Player of the Year category, worth N.dollars 20 000, Stephanus was nominated with Tigers’ Protash Kabwe and Somaeb.

Speaking to Nampa on Saturday, Stephanus said it is an indescribable feeling.

“I seriously did not expect any of these awards, because I did not have a great season this time around like last season,” he said.

Stephanus advised his fellow footballers to continue working hard and maintain discipline.

“Most of our Namibian sportsmen lack off-the-field discipline, and I want to tell them that discipline is the key to success, so they should always strive to be disciplined,” said the player, whose club also won the premiership this season.

He also thanked his teammates for supporting him throughout the season.

Stephanus will be in action again when the Standard Bank Super Cup takes place on 30 August 2014.

BA will play against 2014 Bidvest Namibia Cup champions, African Stars.

Meanwhile, Somaeb scooped N.dolllars 30 000 as the Top Goal Scorer, and BA Coach Brian Isaack was awarded as the Coach of the Season, winning N.dollars 20 000.

Martin Ndara from the Kavango Region was recognised as the Referee of the Season and he received N.dollars 10 000, while Mathew Kanyanga from the Khomas Region received N.dollars 5 000 as the Assistant Referee of the Season.
