Suicides on the increase in Otjozondjupa: Police

OTJIWARONGO: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region yesterday expressed concern over the increasing cases of suicide in the region.

NamPol’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview that 17 cases of suicide have been recorded in the region from January to April this year.

According to police statistics, which were shown to Nampa on Tuesday, an 82-year-old man is the oldest person on the list of suicides in the region, while the youngest person was 19 years old.

Mbeha also reacted to the two suicide incidents which were reported to her office over the weekend in the Otjozondjupa Region.

She said that a 30-year-old woman in Gam settlement allegedly hanged herself to death on a tree Saturday evening.
