Swakop by-elections contenders promise to provide housing

SWAKOPMUND: The four political parties competing in the Swakopmund Constituency by-election individually promised to deliver land and housing when voted into office. The by-election is set for tomorrow.

National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) candidate, Uahimisa Kaapehi told Nampa yesterday that his attention is on the DRC informal settlement, where he wants to establish two serviced areas for housing and business purposes.

Kaapehi noted that Government’s Mass Housing programme should not be seen as the only solution to the current housing problem, adding that other strategies such as support from the private sector in constructing houses should be considered.

Swapo’s candidate Juuso Kambueshe said the party has a five-year plan in which the provision of housing is included, adding he will take time to once again consult with the community to see how to improve and finalise development programmes.

Christa Magrietha Hochobes of the DTA of Namibia, who resides in DRC, said she wants to bring change in the lives of fellow residents in terms of development, such as housing.

Representing the United Democratic Front (UDF), Marius !Uwu-Gaeb said housing is a burning issue that came a long way but little is done to solve it, hence he will find ways to provide housing.
