Swapo gala dinner raises N.dollars 8.6 million

ONGWEDIVA: The fundraising gala dinner organised by a northern business committee chaired by a business tycoon Ben Hauwanga of the BH Group of companies for the ruling Swapo-Party has collected more than N.dollars 8.6 million.

The gala dinner, attended also by the Swapo-Party presidential candidate Dr Hage Geingob and the party’s secretary-general Nangolo Mbumba, took place at the Bennies Entertainment Park and Lodge in Ongwediva on Friday night.

Oshikango-based foreign-owned companies contributed the highest amount of money to the coffer of the Swapo-Party.

These companies are Ezzy Import and Export (N.dollars 2.2 million), International Commercial (N.dollars 1.5 million) and Dragon City (N.dollars 1 million).

Another business entity owned by the Indian business personalities, Ranni Traders, contributed N.dollars 400 000.

Local businessman Joshua Haimbodi of the Emirates business company opened the fundraising event by pledging N.dollars 500 000.

Benz Building Supplier and Fysal Fresh Produce are the other local business entities that contributed N.dollars 500 000 while Hauwanga’s BH Group of Companies has pledged N.dollars 200 000.

Vice-chairperson of the gala dinner organizing committee and chairperson of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) northern branch, Tomas Iindji told those present that the money collected is for the Swapo-Party election campaign and celebrations thereafter.

Veterans’ Affairs Minister Dr Nickey Iyambo, Trade and Industry Minister Calle Schlettwein, Finance Minister Saara Kuugolwa-Amadhila, Gender Equality and Child Welfare Minister Rosalia Nghidinwa and Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana were also present.
