Swapo Is Trendsetter in Allowing Poverty – DTA

The DTA of Namibia has vowed to move Namibia’s socio-economic agenda forward through a prosperous economy once elected into power.

“Our plan is to build a ger Namibia by building a ger economy, cleaner environment and more modern infrastructure, said DTA president McHenry Venaani on Saturday.

He was speaking during the DTA central committee meeting in Windhoek to approve the party’s presidential candidate, discuss and approve their National Assembly list and adopt the DTA’s election manifesto for the 2014 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

Venaani expressed concern that the ruling Swapo party has been a trendsetter in allowing more than two-thirds of Namibians to wallow in poverty without any help.

“Indeed the Swapo Party has set a trend in creating the most unemployed society in the history of the country and in running a near-to-collapse health system and an education sector that fails to create jobs,” he added.

Venaani was referring to the Swapo presidential candidate Hage Geingob’s recent statement that his party is the trendsetter.

The DTA leader was optimistic that with a modernised economy and the right policies, Namibians can have competitive manufacturing industries, a dynamic service sector, a growing knowledge economy, modernised agricultural sector, and a value-added mining sector.

He pledged that his party will provide free education from pre-primary to tertiary level, and build institutions of higher learning within regions and raise the quality of education at all levels.

Venaani noted that once in power, the DTA ensures that social grants systems will be a means to lift many out of poverty, and particular emphasis shall be placed on supporting single mothers who raise children in difficulties.

His party will also improve the doctoratient ratio, saying currently, patients have to wait for many days before getting treatment from doctors.
