Swapo members celebrate in Kunene

OPUWO: The Swapo Party won the majority constituencies in the Kunene region in both the Presidential and National Assembly elections that was just concluded Friday national wide.

Kunene region had been a thorn in the flesh for the ruling party Swapo since independence as the majority constituencies were being led by the opposition parties since.

Swapo party and its presidential candidate, Hage Geingob managed to win six of the seven constituencies of Kunene region.

These constituencies are Opuwo Urban which is a new established constituency under the leadership of DTA, the Epupa Constituency that is also under the leadership of DTA, the Kamanjab, Sesfontein, and Khorixas constituencies that are currently all under the leadership of UDF.

Outjo constituency that was also won by Swapo in both elections has been the only constituency that was under the ruling party’s leadership all these year since independence.

The District Coordinator of Opuwo Urban, Tuarungua Kavari expressed his happiness towards the victory and thanked the people of who voted for Swapo and brought victory that was so long overdue.

“We feel happy and joyful after 24 years we have been losing and now is our time to celebrated the lost constituency is back,” noted Kavari.

The Swapo party supporters in Opuwo were celebrating since Saturday morning after they learned about the victory with cars mounted with flags and hooting in the streets.

On Sunday at least 40 vehicles that include trucks and sedans were being driven in a convoy with the Namibia Police around the streets of Opuwo Town.

The Swapo Regional Head Office in Opuwo was packed since Saturday with members dancing and singing party songs all night long a situation that continues to Sunday.
