Swapo registers 70 new members

WINDHOEK; Swapo welcomed 70 new members from opposition parties here on Wednesday.

The ruling party’s deputy Secretary-General, Laura McLeod-Katjirua received the new members, saying the majority of them come from the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) and the DTA of Namibia.

“You came at the right time, election is on Friday and we have 70 more votes for Swapo,” she said.

McLeod-Katjirua noted that all ethnic groups are welcome in Swapo.

She urged all new members to assist the party to continue carrying out the mandate of governing the country, because Swapo is the only party that can do such.

A total of 1 241 194 million voters have registered to vote on Friday in Presidential and National Assembly elections.

This will be the sixth national elections since the country’s independence in 1990, and the first time the country will use electronic voting machines (EVMs).
