Teenager Held for Raping and Assaulting 42-Year-Old Woman

The 17-year-old boy who allegedly raped, assaulted and robbed a 42-year-old woman at Epupa village in the Kunene Region last week, appeared in the Opuwo Magistrate’s Courts on Tuesday.

In an earlier report, the woman’s age was erroneously given as 43.

The suspect appeared before Magistrate Liina Iyambo, and was remanded in custody to allow for further police investigation into the matter.

His case was postponed to 6 January this year. Taimi Iipinge was the acting prosecutor in the case.

According police reports, the teenager allegedly raped the 42-years old woman on 28 December 2014 at around 23h40, after he followed her from a bar at Epupa village.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) public relations officer, Pendukeni Haikali told Nampa on Wednesday that the suspect approached the victim in a bar and made sexual aances towards her, which the complainant rejected.

“As the woman was leaving the bar, the suspect allegedly followed her home and offered her some cigarettes. But he then later apparently demanded that she pays for the cigarettes. When the victim refused, she was reportedly tripped and dragged to a nearby toilet where the suspect allegedly forced himself on her,” Haikali explained.

After raping her, the suspect allegedly assaulted the woman physically and then robbed her of N$40 in the process.
