Ten people die in road crashes over two days

WINDHOEK: At least three people died in a motor-vehicle accident on the Karibib-Okahandja road on Tuesday.

The Motor-Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund said in a statement issued on Tuesday that four people, including the driver, were in the sedan when it swerved off the road and slammed into a stationary truck.

One passenger sustained moderate injuries and was rushed to the Okahandja State Hospital.

The MVA also reported another fatal accident which claimed seven lives on Monday at Onyaanya on the Ondangwa-Omuthuya road.

Two sedans – a Toyota Corolla and a Volkswagen (VW) Polo – collided head-on.

The Toyota was carrying five people of which four died at the scene and one upon arrival at the hospital; while two out of the four passengers of the VW Polo also died on the spot.

The two survivors sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Onanjokwe State Hospital for medical attention.

The causes of both accidents are still under investigation.
