Three GBV cases recorded since Wednesday

WINDHOEK: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) have recorded three alleged incidences of gender-based violence (GBV) since Wednesday.

In the Kunene Region, Fabiola Heibes was stabbed in the back and in the right eye, allegedly by her boyfriend, in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred at Outjo at around 00h20.

NamPol spokesperson Slogan Matheus said at a media briefing in the capital on Sunday it is thought that the 32-year-old Heibes, who was transferred to the Katutura State Hospital, had an argument with her boyfriend at a house in the Etosha Port residential area.

The suspect in the matter is a 36-year-old man who cannot be named as he is yet to appear in court.

The NamPol spokesperson also noted that the 43-year-old Paulina Shehama Seibes was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend at a bar in Windhoek on Wednesday. Seibes was stabbed at around 20h45 in Cecilia Davids Street in Okahandja Park.

It is alleged that the suspect and his girlfriend had an argument outside the bar, after the girlfriend indicated that she was ending their relationship.

The suspect then stabbed Seibes with a knife and she ran into the bar and collapsed. She died on the spot while being attended to by medical personnel, he added.

The suspect, a 43-year-old male, has been arrested, and police investigations into the matter continue.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Lineekela Kandjabanga is in a serious but stable condition in the Katutura State Hospital after she was slashed with a panga on her back and lost one of her fingers in an attack which was allegedly perpetrated by her boyfriend. The incident occurred at around 02h00 on Sunday at Farm Kiamseb West. The farm is situated 100 kilometres outside Windhoek on the Kupferburg Road.

Matheus said the owner of the farm overheard the couple fighting and attempted to intervene. The woman collapsed and thereafter, the 35-year-old suspect fled and hanged himself with a rope.

The deceased’s next of kin had not yet been informed by Sunday afternoon, and police investigations into the matter continue.

In an unrelated incident Johannes Vilho, 22, was admitted to the Outjo State Hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed three times on Saturday. He was allegedly stabbed by a 20-year-old man at around 00h30 at Zebra Bar, also in the Etosha Port Location.

The suspect in the matter has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
