Three people drown in Etaka Dam in Onesi Constituency

WINDHOEK: Three people drowned in the Etaka Dam in the Omusati Region’s Onesi Constituency on Saturday afternoon.

Namibia Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson Inspector Stephan Nuuyi told members of the media in Windhoek yesterday during the weekly crime briefing that the bodies of a man, his girlfriend and a child who was related to the woman were found floating in the water at Etaka in the Epalela area.

Nuuyi said it was reported that the three went out in a canoe to fish on Friday at around 17h00.

He said it is suspected that the canoe capsized, which led to them drowning.

The deceased have been identified as Passeko Kathelandu, 48; Lahya Ekandjo, 46; and Shanyenge Taleni, who was two years and seven months old.

Their next of kin have been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
