Three victims of Karibib-Okahandja road crash identified

OTJIWARONGO: The three people who died in a car crash on the Karibib-Okahandja road on Tuesday have been identified.

The Renault sedan they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck at about 02h00, some 25 kilometres west of Okahandja.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa upon enquiry on Tuesday that the deceased are Martha Kastoor, 80; Jonny Pietersen, 36; and the 50-year-old driver, Frederick Naruseb.

All three died on the spot.

Their close relatives were informed of their deaths.

Mbeha said MonosolyNuseb, 49, who was in the same sedan, sustained injuries on his right arm, and was admitted at the Okahandja State Hospital that same day.

Two occupants of the truck were unhurt.

She said the Renault’s four occupants were travelling from Karibib to Okahandja, while the Isuzu mini-truck was headed in the opposite direction, but developed a tyre problem and pulled off the road.

It is alleged that the driver of the sedan crossed over into the opposite lane, and crashed into the stationary truck.

“The real cause of the collision is still unknown,” stated Mbeha.

Police investigations continue.
