Time for Welwitschias to make history: Geingob

WINDHOEK: Prime Minister (PM) Hage Geingob says the time is right for the Welwitschias to progress from being mere participants to making history after they successfully qualified for their fifth consecutive Rugby World Cup.

The national senior rugby team thrashed Madagascar by 89-10 in the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) tournament on Sunday to qualify for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which will be played in England.

The team arrived at the Hosea Kutako International Airport this morning.

Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) president Bradley Basson welcomed the players, and congratulated them on their performance before reading out a letter from the PM.

Geingob congratulated the NRU and the Welwitschias for their outstanding performance over the weekend.

In his letter, he said the team’s accomplishment exemplifies the bravery and ‘never-say-die’ spirit of the Namibian nation.
