Transnamib Teams Up With NIMT As Technical Partner

TransNamib Holdings Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) on Monday, November 10, 2014. The memorandum sets in place a framework for formal collaboration between TransNamib and NIMT.

TransNamib has identified the NIMT as a technical partner with the technical expertise and as a crucial role-player to provide technical support in respect of TransNamib’s technical training and other related development programmes.

NIMT and TransNamib both stated that they recognise the value of institutional cooperation and exchanges for the purpose of human resource development, knowledge sharing and research aimed at promoting national competitiveness in support of the NDP-4 and Vision 2030.

NIMT emphasised that as an institution of higher education, it values the practical and academic experience of its students by providing students with an opportunity to understand real life professional, technical and workplace environmental skills and to apply both practical and theoretical knowledge while studying, which TransNamib will make available to students.

At the occasion, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Hippy Tjivikua, highlighted that “capacity building through endeavours such as vocational education and training is regarded as one of the driving forces behind realising the objectives of the NDP4 and Namibia’s Vision 2030.”

Both institutions are in agreement that they have a role to play their part to contribute towards the realisation of national development efforts, which can only be achieved with appropriately qualified young and skillful people like artisans. NIMT has training facilities at Arandis, Tsumeb and Keetmanshoop.

Speaking at the ceremony, NIMT Executive Director, Eckhard Muller commented: “We have to work as a team to be successful in creating jobs and eradicating poverty by ensuring that our young people get the right training to join the work force. Artisans are in demand than ever before.”
