Two injured as the vehicle veered off the road

OTJIWARONGO: Two men from Otjiwarongo sustained light injuries after a Mazda Etude sedan they were travelling in veered off the road and caught fire on the Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld road shortly before 20h00 on Wednesday evening.

The sedan’s 29-year-old driver, Simon Shihepo told Nampa in an interview at the scene that he and his sibling, Jeremiah Shaduka, 31, were coming from the Yakandongo Lodge situated between Kalkfeld and Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region.

He said that approximately 15 kilometres before Otjiwarongo, he heard a loud sound coming from under the vehicle.

Shihepo said his vehicle then unexpectedly veered off the road, and crashed into a culvert situated on the left side of the road.

He suspects the impact on the culvert caused the vehicle to catch fire before rolling several times.

They had managed to exit the burning vehicle after it came to a halt at approximately 50 metres from the road.

Shaduka sustained back and left leg injuries, while Shihepo fractured his left arm, and were both taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital that same evening.
