Two Police Officers Killed in Car Accident

TWO police officers died in a car accident on the Epukiro road on Saturday afternoon.

They were among the police contingent that was assigned to serve during the weekend’s OvaMbanderu coronation ceremony.

A third police officer escaped the accident with minor scratches. He was discharged from hospital the following day.

The accident took place at the Skoonheid Resetlement Farm turn-off, 10km from Du Plessies Plaas on the Epukiro road.

It is not clear what caused the accident, but the police suspect that the driver may have lost control over the vehicle after missing a turn. The vehicle rolled about four times before coming to a standstill on its roof on the shoulder of the road.

Although the identities of those involved in the accident are known to Nampa, they could not be independently verified.

Omaheke regional police Commander Josephat Abel said it is not easy losing two members of the force in an accident, especially in the line of duty.

“We will miss them in our work as colleagues and friends. This is a sad time for us in NamPol Omaheke and we pray for the best. May their souls rest in peace,” he said.

In an unrelated incident, a man was arrested in the Epako location of Gobabis, after he stabbed another man to death with a knife.

Police suspect that an argument might have erupted at the gambling house where the two were hanging out for the evening, leading to the murder.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
