Voter turnout at least 70 per cent in Kunene constituencies

OPUWO: At least 36 948 voters cast their votes in the Kunene Region during the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Friday.

This figure represents 73 per cent of the 50 105 voters who registered in the region.

The Kunene Region has seven constituencies – Epupa, Opuwo Urban, Opuwo Rural, Outjo, Sesfontein, Kamanjab and Khorixas.

According to the breakdown of the votes as to the voters’ register from the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), the Epupa Constituency had 10 009 registered voters of which only 7 736 voted during the elections. This represents 77 per cent of all voters registered.

Opuwo Urban’s share of voters registered are 9 109, of which only 6 870 or 75 per cent voted.

The ECN statistics of November this year indicate that Opuwo Rural registered 6 252 voters. Of this amount, 5 154 voters or 82.4 per cent voted.

At least 4 746 voters voted in the Outjo Constituency, representing 57 per cent of the 8 215 voters registered in the constituency.

A total of 3 764 voters managed to cast their votes in the Sesfontein Constituency, representing 78 per cent of the 4 784 total voters.

The Kamanjab Constituency registered 3 925 voters of which 3 236 cast their votes during the elections, which represents an 82 per cent turnout.

The Khorixas Constituency had 7 811 registered voters and only 5 442 or 69 per cent voted on Friday.
