Walvis’ Ellerines burglars remanded

WALVIS BAY; Four alleged burglars charged with theft from the Ellerines furniture shop here on Monday, were remanded in custody on Thursday.

Jimmy Links, 22; Bonifatius Kondombolo, 26; Issaskar Ha-Eirob, 27, and Ivan van Wyk, 26, appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court before presiding officer Vicky Nicolaidis, who postponed their case to 03 November 2014 for further police investigations.

They were arrested on Tuesday.

State prosecutor Eden Iyambo objected to bail on the grounds that police investigations into the matter are still in the early stages.

The suspects were advised to apply for formal bail and legal representation.

The Namibian Police (Nampol) on Wednesday said the suspects took advantage of the power outages experienced in Walvis Bay on Monday evening to break into Ellerines, and allegedly stole items such as televisions and sound systems worth N.dollars 87 000.

NamPol’s regional commander for Erongo, Commissioner Samuel //Hoebeb told Nampa on Wednesday that they recovered items worth N.dollars 80 000 on Tuesday.

These items were found hidden in a garage in the Kuisebmund residential area at a house along Omugulugwombashe Street.

Items valued at N.dollars 7 000 are still missing.

The suspects allegedly used a gas-cutter to cut the roof of the furniture shop to gain entry, and later used a truck to transport the goods.

“The recovered items were returned to the shop already. We also found, in the possession of the same suspects, other items such a laptop, laptop charger, Samsung Galaxy Tab, an E-book reader, printer and DVD player, which are not from Ellerines,” //Hoebeb explained.

Police earlier on Wednesday reported that there were five suspects, but it came to light in court on Thursday that they are only four.
