Warning to Use Water Sparingly in Central Area

NAMWATER has urged water users in the central area water supply network to use water sparingly to avoid a looming water crisis due to low dam levels.

In a statement issued yesterday, NamWater said the three main dams including Omatako,Von Bach and Swakoppoort that supply water to the central area – Windhoek, Okahandja, Karibib, Okakarara, Navachab mine and the international airport, have not received significant inflow, to the extent that dam levels are significantly lower compared to the same time last year.

NamWater announced that additional measures will be implemented to ensure that there is adequate water to secure water supply to the central area.

To supplement its efforts to avoid a looming water crisis, NamWater has urged all affected water users to curb water demand and to exercise demand management strategies.

“Water users in the central area are called on to cooperate fully in this very important matter. If everybody contributes, we will be in a position to ensure that hardship is reduced to an absolute minimum,” the statement reads.
