Warriors Welcomed in Congo

The Brave Warriors have seamlessly settled into their new surroundings in Point-Noire following their arrival in the Congolese coastal city at noon on Saturday.

Apart from the prescribed high humidity weather conditions, none of the anticipated pre-match harassment and intimidation from the hosts materialised, and instead about 200 football crazed locals rocked up to the see the team go through its paces at the Au Complexe Sportif de pointe-Noire in the afternoon.

“The reception was good. We haven’t experienced any problems so far,” said team captain Ronald Ketjijere.

“The mood is very high. We are looking forward to the game. We want to get the result and progress to the next stage,” he added.

Coach Ricardo Mannetti said he too was pleasantly surprised at the fair treatment from the Congolese.

Mannetti found the food and accommodation at the Hotel de Fez particularly to his liking.

“I think it’s much better than we expected. They accepted us very well. They allowed us to train. The security was tight. In terms of that, we are very happy,” said Mannetti.

“Up to now we haven’t had any disturbance, so now it’s just up to us to give a good showing and a good fight tomorrow.”

The match is expected to kick-off at 16h00 on Sunday.
