Welwitschias Face Leopards

THE WELWITSCHIAS close their 2015 Vodacom Cup campaign with a tough match against the leopards at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek tomorrow night.

The Welwitschias can expect a g onslaught from the Leopards who are still in the running for a quarter-final place in the competition.

The Leopards are currently fourth on the Northern Section log with 15 points from six matches, while the Welwitschias are seventh and second last with six points from six matches.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls lead the log with 29 points from seven matches followed by the Golden Lions with 28 points from six matches and the Steval Pumas who are third on 24 points from seven matches.

The top four teams in the Northern and Southern sections will qualify for the quarter-finals and knockout stages of the competition.

The leopards have won three of their six matches to date, beating the Griffons 59-12, the Valke 36-31 and the Limpopo Blue Bulls 22-9, while their defeats came against the Lions (63-10), the Pumas (31-23) and the Blue Bulls (46-25).

Their team, which was announced yesterday, has an interesting inclusion in Namibia’s Johan Deysel at centre. Deysel, who studies at Potchefstroom University, has been in outstanding form for them this season, and helped them reach the final of the Varsity Cup where they lost 63-33 against the Shimlas of Free State University on 13 April.

The Leopards team is as follows:

Devon Martinus, Dane van der Westhuizen, Stephan Bezuidenhout, Daniel Jordaan, Francois Robbertse, Jaco Jordaan, HP Swart, Juan Language (captain), Malherbe Swart, Kobus du Plessis, Adi Jacobs, Adriaan Engelbrecht, Johan Deysel, Sergio Torrens, Myburgh Briers.

The Welwitschias team must still be announced.
