Windhoek-Okahandja road upgrade progressing well

WINDHOEK: Progress has been made in laying the ground work for the construction of the dual carriageway between Windhoek and Okahandja, with the clearing of land already in progress.

The Roads Authority Company (RA) Corporate Communications Officer, Ndahafa Nakwafila, informed Nampa upon enquiry on Thursday that although the actual construction is yet to start on section three of the project, land has already been cleared for the envisaged carriageway.

She said that it has however been problematic to obtain approval from landowners of land which falls within the boundaries of the project, in order to remove waste material from their land to make way for constructions.

The RA is overseeing the project, while the Grinaker-LTA is the appointed contractor for the project.

In order to upgrade the Windhoek-Okahandja road to freeway standards, the road was subdivided into four sections, which will be constructed in phases.

Section Two of the dual carriageway construction, which is currently a dual carriageway between Sam Nujoma Drive and Brakwater, will be repaired to extend its lifespan for 30 more years.
