With elections less than a week away thousands of Swapo supporters gather at Sam Nujoma Stadium for rally

WINDHOEK: With elections less than a week away, thousands of Swapo supporters gathered at the Sam Nujoma Stadium yesterday for their party’s last star rally.

The Presidential and National elections will take place next Friday.

Swapo president Hifikepunye Pohamba used the opportunity to thank all Swapo members for the peaceful manner in which the election campaign was conducted during the past few weeks.

The ruling party launched its election campaign and 2014 Election Manifesto on 06 September, and held several election-related activities since.

He said they are happy that the mobilisation campaign received a positive response in all corners of the country, adding that the ruling party is grateful for the overwhelming support by the Namibian people who attended the campaign rallies.

He again introduced the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Hage Geingob to the Swapo colours-clad audience, who welcomed him with loud cheers.

He also reflected on the party’s achievements since independence in 1990, saying Swapo has a solid track record in governance and service delivery, noting that development programmes the party implemented brought positive changes in all parts of the country.

The large crowd, who gathered since early in the morning at the stadium, was entertained by various local musicians.
