Woman Kills Boyfriend Over Blanket

POLICE have said a woman from Oshaandjela village in Ondangwa stabbed her 79-year-old boyfriend to death yesterday morning during a quarrel over a blanket that had fallen from their bed.

Sergeant Slogan Matheus, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident yesterday during the weekend press briefing in Windhoek.

Matheus said the man, Johannes Nakatana Mumbala, died on the spot when the 47-year-old woman (name withheld pending her court appearance) stabbed him several times with a knife all over his body.

He said the suspect was arrested and is in custody, while police investigations into the matter continue.

Mumbala’s death brings the number of people who died of various causes in the past week to 15.

In the Otjiwarongo district, Linda Gaeses was stabbed in the neck with a knife by her boyfriend (name withheld pending his court appearance) after she had accused him of infecting her with HIV-AIDS. The suspect allegedly fled the scene.

“The police traced and arrested him. He was taken to hospital after it was discovered that he had drunk poison. He was examined, treated and released from hospital and is now in police cells,” Matheus said.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested at the Ongwediva Vocational Training Centre after she allegedly dumped her newborn baby in a dustbin.

“We believe the suspect gave birth to a baby girl during the early hours of Friday at the hostel. The suspect then strangled the baby with a cloth and then dumped the body in a dustbin,” Matheus said.

He said later in the morning, the hostel caretaker traced the blood from the toilet to the suspect’s room and then to the dustbin.

The suspect is currently admitted at the Oshakati State Hospital under police guard.

In Windhoek, Bonifasius Shikongo (32) was found hanging in his sleeping room at Omheleiwa street, Okruyangava. No suicide note was found on the scene.

Police also suspect that Dina Ditriek (56) was raped before she was murdered on Saturday night. Her body was found lying at her door at Karis street in Windhoek West.

A wheelchair-bound man (77) from Swakopmund died from injuries he sustained when a car bumped him on Saturday. Police said the man identified as Werner Ratzke was accompanied by his wife when the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and hit him.

Another man, Obed Naruseb (36), died on Friday when a truck hit him along the ArandisUsakos road while Ericson Nghidinwa Mwafetange also died when he drowned in a well at Okapyakeedibo village in Engodi area. Police said Mwafetange drowned while trying to rescue his goat.

Eliaser Indongo (25) also died on Saturday after he was hit by a truck along the OshiveloOndangwa road and Timoteus Udjombala (29) was stabbed to death at Omuthiya on Sunday.

At Ongwediva, Penipawa Simon (47) fell from a tree and died on the spot on Saturday. Police said Simon was collecting firewood when fell at Omahahi village.

Gideon Erastus (5 months), was found dead in bed where he was sleeping with his mother at Oshali village, Ondobe area on Thursday last week. Police said an inquest has been opened to establish the cause of his death.

At Tses, two people died when they were stabbed during a quarrel over a fire. Police said Charles Bloodstaan (40) and Elder Elmarien Bloodstaan (46) quarrelled with the 25-year-old suspect over stoking the fire.

Jackson Kangombe Mbembo (36) was killed while eight other passengers in a vehicle that was being driven by a Isaac Benny Mafudza, sustained injuries in an accident at Okangwali.
