Woman shot and killed by husband

WALVIS BAY: A 43-year-old woman from Swakopmund’s Mondesa residential area was allegedly shot and killed by her husband on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 01h00 at house number 3431 in Tulinawa, Mondesa, where Isabella Tjizu was allegedly shot in the head by her husband Gerson Kahorere, aged 46.

Kahorere, who is then said to have turned the pistol on himself, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Swakopmund State Hospital.

He shot himself in the head.

Detective Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region confirmed the incident today, saying it is not yet clear what could have led to the alleged murder and suicide, but the police have opened inquest dockets for both cases.

Iikuyu indicated that neighbours who called police to the scene said they heard the couple arguing about something.

He said when the police arrived at the house they heard a gunshot coming from the room and when they forced open the door, they found the woman dead in a pool of blood.

Her husband was also bleeding heavily from the bullet wound to his head, but was still alive at that time.
