Woman’s Body Found Dumped in Dunes

THE body of a woman, believed to be between 28 and 30 years old, was discovered in the dunes near Walvis Bay’s Narraville suburb at noon today.

She was identified by her next of kin as Bernadine Baumgarten.

Acting Erongo Regional Crime Investigator Coordinator, detective inspector Erastus Iikuyu, said the body was found covered with a blanket in the dunes.

Iikuyu said there were no visible wounds on the body, nor any blood, and that only a post mortem will reveal the cause of death.

The detective, however, suspected that the body was transported in a ‘wheelie’ dustbin from Kuisebmond (on the other side of the main road that runs between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay), over the road and 300 metres into the dunes from the road on the Narraville side.

“We could see the tracks of the wheels and followed them back to Kuisebmond where we found the dustbin left next to someone’s house,” Iikuyu told The Namibian, adding that they suspect she may have been murdered the previous evening.

No arrests had been made at the time of going to press yesterday, although Iikuyu said: “We are on the tracks of the suspect.”
