Young Chiefs Canvas Community Support

Newly promoted Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit Young Chiefs Football Club has called on the northern community to help keep the club in the top tier division.

The team gained promotion to Namibia’s elite league after winning the North-West First Division (NWFD) stream in April this year.

Chiefs are the only representatives from the north-west of the country currently in the elite league.

The last side from that part of the country to compete in the NPL was Oshakati City, who were relegated to the first division in 2011.

Young Chiefs public relations officer, Nicanor Kapuka, told Nampa that they intend on staying among the top teams.

“It has been a long time since we had a team from the four northern regions in the NPL and as a team, we are here to represent all the people in the northern side of Namibia. We want to bring back those glory days that Oshakati City and King Kauluma (KK) Palace showed our people in the north,” said Kapuka.

He called on former footballers, supporters, sponsors and other football teams’ management residing in the Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto and Ohangwena to attend an information gathering meeting by Young Chiefs at the Oshakati Secondary School on Saturday.

“We really want the club to be in the premier league for a long time and that can only happen if we involve input from the community members and those who have the knowledge on how things are run at the top level. We are calling on everyone to come join us on Saturday and give their ideas of how to run things in the 201516 NPL season,” Kapuka said.
