Young man commits suicide at Sitopogo

WINDHOEK: A 22-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with an electrical cord at the Sitopogo village in the Kavango West Region on Wednesday.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Acting Regional Commander in the Kavango West Region, Deputy Commissioner Petrus Shiwedha told Nampa in an interview yesterday that the deceased hung himself from a goal post at the Sitopongo sports field at about 18h20.

The deceased has been identified as Ireneus Warren Kandjimi – a resident of that village.

His next of kin have been informed.

The cousin of the deceased told Nampa via telephone yesterday that the deceased and his girlfriend had an argument after the girlfriend suspected him of cheating on her. She allegedly tore all his clothes in pieces.

The police could, however, not comment on the cause of the suicide, and police investigations continue.
