More than 20 English teachers from six regions gather for training course

OTJIWARONGO: More than 20 English teachers from six regions have gathered at Otjiwarongo for a week-long training course.

The course is being offered by Professor Jairos Kangira, an English lecturer at the University of Namibia (UNAM).

Kangira told Nampa toay that 21 English teachers from junior and senior secondary schools in the Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa and Kunene Regions are participating here.

He is being assisted by the president of Namibia Tesol (Nam-Tesol), Elizabeth Namundjebo, and Dr Katherine Carter, who lectures in English at the Polytechnic of Namibia.

Nam-Tesol is an English training association which maps out training programmes for English teachers in Namibia.

Kangira noted that they are equipping the teachers with skills in English, which they can then transfer to learners. They are also teaching them practical English classroom-centred activities, which they can apply in their classes.

Kangira said English teachers in the other eight regions are expected to attend similar courses at Swakopmund before the end of this year.
