The 2022 edition of the MTC Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) Annual Sport Awards was officially launched here on Wednesday.
For the first time in its history, the awards will be held in the town of Lüderitz, in the ||Kharas Region on 05 November 2022.
Speaking during the launch NSC Chief Administrator, Freddy Mwiya said since 2018 they embarked on taking the awards to the regions in Namibia.
“We have been planning on taking the awards to the south, but due to COVID-19 we were unable to,” said Mwiya.
He added that the commission has done its groundwork and has the buy-in from the locals.
Chalo Chainda, Marketing Officer at NSC told the media that the 18th Edition of the MTC NSC awards consist of 20 categories, with submissions expected to open at midnight on 18 August until 05 October 2022.
He said new categories will be introduced and federations should nominate their athletes for all the categories as appropriate.
“We are appealing to corporate companies to come on board and take on some sports categories at the awards that don’t have sponsors,” Chainda said.
He also stated that as part of the commission’s social corporate responsibilities, they will host coaching clinics while in Lüderitz during the weekend of the awards.
“Apart from our usual sponsors MTC, Namibia Wildlife Resorts, Standard Bank, Namibian Broadcasting Corporation and New Era newspaper, we have new family members that joined us, namely Debmarine, Lüderitz Waterfront, SeaFlower, and Lüderitz Town Council but we are still calling on more corporate companies to come on board and make this event a success,” he said.
