22 000 expected to cast their votes for a new constituency councillor in a by-election set for 09 March this year

Nearly 22 000 inhabitants of the Otjiwarongo Constituency are expected to cast their votes for a new constituency councillor in a by-election set for 09 March this year.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor Julius Neumbo, who died in a motor vehicle accident on 10 December 2019.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)'s Otjiwarongo supplementary registration supervisor, Jafet Karamata told Nampa in an interview yesterday that 21 835 residents are expected to vote.

Karamata said the voters register with the information of all registered voters in the constituency was displayed on Monday.

Karamata explained that this verification process has been completed, adding that as from 14 to 29 January this year all political parties and individuals interested in contesting the by-election will be required to submit their names to the ECN.
