67 Namibians suffer Easter weekend road injuries

A total of 67 Namibians have suffered injuries from 31 road accidents that occurred over the past Easter weekend, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Deputy Inspector-General for Operations, Joseph Shikongo has said.

Briefing the media here Friday, Shikongo said only two fatalities were recorded as compared to 12 deaths registered in 2021 over the same period, noting that the number of fatalities decreased by 83 per cent.

He also said, road accidents decreased by 40 per cent with 52 recorded in the previous year, whilst injuries decreased by 42 per cent from 99 injuries recorded in 2021.

“The decrease of crashes is due to the collaboration of all key stakeholders through visible patrols and robust traffic law enforcement campaigns,” he noted.

Shikongo further indicated that a total of 1 107 admissions of guilt fines were issued with a total value of N.dollars 1.2 million in offences which included 24 illegal transportation by seven-seater vehicles.
