A 71-year-old male driver died instantly on Friday after the white double cab he was driving allegedly overturned and rolled twice on the road between Otjiwarongo and Okakarara.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Saturday said the deceased was identified on Friday evening by his close relatives as Naftali Vries.

Mbeha said Vries, together with other four occupants aged 35, 45, 71, and 52, were travelling from the direction of Okakarara towards Otjiwarongo at the time of accident.

At approximately 36 kilometres west of Okakarara at about 12h00, the two rear tyres of their vehicle allegedly burst, causing Vries to lose control over the vehicle, leading to it rolling twice, Mbeha said.

Vries died on the spot, while the other four occupants sustained slight to serious injuries, she added.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
