United nations: The three African members of the Security Council – Algeria, Sierra Leone, and Somalia along with Guyana, collectively known as A3+, have strongly condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state.

According to Namibia Press Agency, A3+ issued a joint statement at an emergency meeting of the Security Council, expressing their disapproval of Israel’s actions. The statement, read by Somali UN ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, emphasized that Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia, is legally incapable of entering into any agreement or recognition with another country. The statement declared such arrangements null and void.

The A3+ statement indicated that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland constitutes a direct violation of the UN Charter, the African Union’s principles, and international law. The act was described as an attempt to fragment Somalia’s territory and destabilize the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. The A3+ urged all UN member states to reject and condemn Israel’s announcement.

Additionally, A3+ called for a unified stance against any attempts to relocate Palestinians from their homeland to other countries, particularly highlighting Israel’s purported plans to move the Palestinian population from Gaza to Somaliland. The statement labeled this action as unlawful and morally reprehensible, stressing that neither Palestinian rights nor Somalia’s territorial sovereignty should be compromised.

The A3+ further warned that Israel’s actions set a dangerous precedent and threaten regional and international peace and security. They urged the international community to uphold the UN Charter and reject any acts undermining Somalia’s sovereignty or Palestinian rights.

The coalition of A3+ comprises three elected African members of the Security Council along with a like-minded country from the Latin America and Caribbean region, working together to promote a common African position.
