All set for NDF tournament

12 Brigade (Bde) is busy preparing for the upcoming Namibian Defence Force (NDF) tournament earmarked to take place from 5 to 10 August at Keetmanshoop with all sport men and women in uniform expected to participate.

The tournament that includes soccer, netball, volleyball, boxing, pool table and track and will be hosted by 12 Bde based in Captain HendrikWitbooi barracks, Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas region.

According to 12 Bde Sports Chairperson, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) SamoraNyambali, the tournament will take place at Keetmanshoop stadium which can accommodate all six sport codes.

Nyambali told Nampa that the tournament preparations are underway adding that they held a meeting on 18 July where the draw took place and the tournament committee has now drafted almost all relevant documents including fixtures.

Nyambali said sport is good for the health of soldiers especially during peace time adding that the objective of this tournament is to promote cohesion, encourage endurance, inspire physical fitness and encourage teamwork.

Sport allows for soldiers to remain fit and ready to complement their mandate as defenders of this country, said Nyambali.

Also speaking to this agency, 12 Bde Sports Manager, Corporal Steven Matyayi said all participating teams' representatives confirmed their participation in various sport codes.

Matyayi said the tournament has come at the right time considering that the weather is good for sport members.

We can't wait for the day to come, players need to keep training and work hard in order to be able to represent Namibia in various sport disciplines, said Matyayi.

The overall winner during the 2018 NDF tournament was 26 Bde who collected 28 gold medals and were also crowned champions of the soccer which is the main event and walked away with N.dollars 3000.

In 2018, the NDF tournament was hosted by 21 Bde in the capital.
