Aluta Marine Fishing (Pty) Ltd and its partner Cadilu Fishing have donated N.dollars 350 000 towards the National Emergency Disaster Fund (NEDF) assisting affected communities in times of emergencies.

The donation was handed over to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) on Monday.

In a media release issued by the OPM on Tuesday, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila commended the fishing companies for their support.

“Let us continue to demonstrate these important societal values to support our people and keep our economy afloat,” she said.

She further called on other quota holders to emulate the gesture.

Director of Aluta Marine Fishing, Trevor Namaseb said as a quota holder most of the company’s labour force comes from the Kunene, Erongo and Omusati regions and the company has noted persistent drought in these regions – an observation which necessitated the donation.

The NEDF was established to coordinate assistance to disaster-affected communities.
