ANC Deputy President told during a North West election visit he had narrowly missed having his convey stoned

SOUTH AFRICA: ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa was told during a North West election visit, that he had narrowly missed having his convey stoned, the Sunday Independent reported.

Beauty Xalabile, aged 60, told Ramaphosa that if the ANC’s regional leadership had not prepared residents of the Khuma Hostel in Matlosana for his visit — including by bringing them groceries — his convoy would have been stoned.

The newspaper reported that the residents of the hostel had taken a resolution to boycott the upcoming general elections — in protest against their living conditions.

The residents also told Ramaphosa that they had to resort to holding a protest against their ward councillor, in order to get her to hold a community meeting.

The Sunday Independent reported that by the end of Ramaphosa’s visit, Xalabile was among those seen donning ANC T-shirts.

South Africa’s general elections will be held on May 7.
